BDO in Russia strives to act in a socially responsible manner and give back to the community in which it operates. The focus of our CSR efforts is sponsorship and professional support of culture and sport. We are:
• Official adviser to the State Hermitage Museum
• General adviser to the State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Mussorgsky (Mikhailovsky Theatre)
• Official adviser to St. Isaac’s Cathedral
• Official partner and auditor of the Volleyball Federation of Russia
• Official sponsor of the Grass Hockey Federation of Russia
• Official partner and auditor of the Russian Rugby Union
• Official partner and auditor of the Dynamo Sports Club (Moscow)

Social audit
In 2008, BDO in Russia audited the annual Russian award for the best social/sustainability report, the winners of which are nominated for the European award. This invitation to audit and participate in the appraisal of candidates demonstrates the competition organisers’ appreciation of our audit expertise, particularly in social audit.

Charitable activities

New Year presents for disabled children
On New Year’s Eve 2010, employees from the BDO group in Russia and the Cheburashki charity collected presents for disabled children from two orphanages in the Moscow and Kaluga regions. Not only did our people collect presents, which included toys, games, construction sets and a TV and DVD set but they also took part in a New Year performance for the children. After the performance, the children each received a present from Santa.

Money for Pavel Presnyakov
In April 2010, we collected money for an 8-year old boy who suffers from a severe form of infantile cerebral paralysis. We managed to collect almost half of the amount required for Pavel Presnyakov’s medical treatment. His course of treatment has already begun and although it is too early to speak about any significant results, there have been some noticeable improvements in Pavel’s health. We have received a thank you letter from Pavel’s mother and brother where they describe how excited Pavel is about his doctors and treatment.

Help for people affected by wildfires in the Moscow region
At the beginning of August, BDO employees collected money, clothes, shoes, household items, cleaning products, toys, stationery and sweets for children, which were then taken by our representatives to the fire victims’ aid committee of the Lukhovitsky district (approximately 200 km from Moscow). The Mokhovoe village in this district was completely destroyed by forest fires. 315 people, including 37 children of up to 16 years old were left homeless. New houses are now being built for villagers and we hope that the items we collected will help them start a new life in their new homes.
