​Due to growing requests for IT audits in the Netherlands, the Dutch member firm BDO CampsObers has enlarged the capacity of it’s IT Expertise Center SAP. Together with new licenses and new employees the IT Expertise Center is able to answer the increasing demand.
‘Large companies often have enough knowledge to structure their IT services’, says Ruud Kerssens, senior manager from the BDO CampsObers IT Expertise Center. ‘Occasionally these companies seek support for their internal audit departments. And BDO is one of the firms that can provide the necessary expertise.’ Kerssens continues: ‘But in the middle market, most companies don’t have the specific knowledge that is required. And that’s why their need for external security assurance of their SAP system is growing rapidly. Of course, the SOX regulations is another reason that urges management of these companies to prioritise IT and application controls in their SAP systems.’

Complex structure
According to Kerssens, the growing demand for IT Audits on SAP is being fed by managements need to have a clear view of the way IT-systems work. ‘SAP has a highly complex authorization structure. We provide an excellent picture (authorization matrices) by carrying out our audits. But that’s just a small part of it. We also examine the security of the system and provide insight in possible threats, all by having the specific needs for middle market companies in mind.’

Support other countries
For SAP Audits, BDO CampsObers is using a SAP certified tool by CSI (Control Software International). Kerssens: ‘Recently we signed a new license agreement that allows us to support companies outside the Netherlands. We support audits in England, Canada and the USA and provide international colleagues with information about the security of SAP systems.’
