BDO, the world's fifth largest accountancy network, is pleased to announce the admission of a new member firm in Macedonia, effective 1 October 2011.
Formerly the firm Dimitrov Revizija, BDO Macedonia is aligned to BDO Serbia, which is taking the lead in developing some new BDO firms in the Central European region. The firm was founded in 1999, following the breakup of Yugoslavia and the establishment of the Republic of Macedonia. Dusan Dimitrov, who founded the firm, was also closely involved in the establishment of the audit profession in the country: for example, he coordinated – and is acknowledged in – the official translation of IFRS now used throughout Macedonia.
The new BDO firm's service offering is focused on auditing and accounting, together with some advisory services. Based in their office in Skopje, the firm's 14 partners and staff currently service over 100 recurring statutory audit clients, some 12 of which are listed on the Skopje stock exchange.
Managing partner Dragan Dimitrov is delighted to be joining an international network and is looking forward to benefitting from association with the BDO brand. “Our firm is small but was one of the first audit firms to be established in Macedonia and we enjoy a strong reputation among our local clients. All companies of a certain size, as well as listed companies, banks and financial institutions are required to prepare financial statements in accordance with IFRS, in which our firm has an exceptional level of experience. Our membership of BDO will allow us to assist those of our clients with ambitions to grow overseas and will also give us a stronger foothold in the banking and finance sector. We are looking forward to an effective collaboration with BDO firms throughout the region and beyond”.
Martin van Roekel, who coincidentally takes up the position of CEO of BDO International Limited on 1 October, agrees that there is huge potential for BDO both in Macedonia and in the region as a whole. “The standing of this small firm is significant. They are already ranked number 6 in the country and I am convinced that, as the Macedonia's economic recovery continues, our new firm will contribute to BDO‟s strategic growth plans in this specific region. We are grateful to BDO in Serbia for leading this initiative”.
