BDO announces admission of new member firm in Costa Rica

January 2010

BDO, the world’s fifth largest accountancy network, is pleased to announce the appointment
of a new member firm in Costa Rica.

The new Costa Rican BDO Member Firm (formerly Marín Méndez Consultores) was founded in
1989. The firm has 4 partners and 40 staff and enjoyed a 40% increase in fee income in 2009,
resulting in a total fee income of €690K (CRC 483 million). More than half of the services the
firm provides are in audit, but the firm has a full service offering that includes corporate
finance, tax compliance & advisory and outsourcing.

Mario Méndez, Managing Partner, is convinced that membership of the international BDO
network will help the firm and its clients.

“Our stated mission is to provide professional excellence in order to satisfy our clients and
the community and, as our client base becomes increasingly internationally oriented, our
joining BDO will help us to attain that goal. We already have a deep understanding of our
clients’ local business needs, and combining that with BDO’s global knowledge of industry
developments and trends will enable us to deliver the best possible professional advice to our
clients”.

Jeremy Newman, CEO of BDO, adds “BDO’s Latin America region continued to perform well in
the last difficult economic year – the region’s combined fee income increased by 10% in 2009
– and, because client proximity is fundamental to the success of our network, the addition of
another well respected firm in the region can only fuel that success. BDO has always given
effective support to our clients as they expand into new areas of the world and our new
firm’s clients in Costa Rica will now be able to benefit from the expertise and strong
collaborative ethos of all our firms around the world. I know that BDO Costa Rica will assist
the network as a whole in delivering the best possible professional advice”.
